While all of Louisiana in one way or another is considered to be a "Sportsmans Paradise," Pointe Coupee Parish adds a little Cajun seasoning to our paradise. Surrounded by rivers and basins, dotted with lakes and ponds both large and small, Pointe Coupee Parish is a Sportsmans Paradise "right out back!"
New Roads is famous for its Mardi Gras Parades on Fat Tuesday; the fantastic lake the town was founded upon, False River; its breathtaking architecture such as the St Mary's Catholic Church and the Pointe Coupee Parish Courthouse; and it's Acadian French Culture and hospitality. People in New Roads love to party, cook, fish, ski, and have a good time!

The Legend of the Pointe Coupee Pecanheads
Many, many years ago, there lived a pecan orchard owner named Pierre in Pointe Coupee Parish. The pecan orchard owner had one daughter, Rosemary, whom he loved very much. One day Rosemary met Jocke, the son of a simple pecan picker that worked for Pierre. Rosemary and Jocke would meet every day beneath the oldest and largest pecan tree in the orchard. They fell in love, and carved a heart shape into the old pecan tree with their names in it, "Rosemary loves Jocke forever." One day Pierre saw the heart on the tree. Pierre knew he could never let his daughter marry such a commoner as a pecan picker's son. He secretly made a pact with another pecan orchard owner in Orleans Parish to hire Jocke's dad and the family was hurried off before sunrise one morning without Rosemary's knowledge. Rosemary could be seen on any given day crying with her arms around the old pecan tree. One day, Rosemary disappeared, never to be seen again. Since that day, no more pecans were harvested beneath the old pecan tree. From that day forth, only cracked pecan shells were found under the tree where the lovers names were carved. Pointe Coupee Parish has since recorded a slow, but steady increase in population growth. THE END.
